Arthrogen B.V.

Arthrogen B.V. (industry), Netherlands

Arthrogen BV is a company established in December 2004 which will be working in the development of innovative research in the field of gene therapy for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The main focus will be on disease regulated expression of therapeutic genes using adeno-associated virus (AAV) as vector. These vectors will be designed to treat patients locally at the site of inflammation. The core business will be the development of the vectors, production of pre-clinical batches, and validation in animal models of arthritis, and ex vivo in material obtained from RA patients. Product development and GMP manufacturing services of viral vectors are available. Genes identified in other workpackages can be tested by Arthrogen in proof of principle studies using AAV gene transfer technology. In addition, Arthrogen is able to develop intra-articular gene therapy.

In the near future Arthrogen will actively participate in the coordination of safety studies and clinical trials using AAV gene therapy. The company is ideally located close to the AMC having all facilities for clinical trials nearby and having extensive contact with the research laboratories and rheumatologist working in the division of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology in the AMC (Director: Prof. Dr. P.P. Tak).
