This participant has extensive experience in functional genomics studies to gain insight into the molecular complexity and heterogeneity of chronic inflammatory autoimmune diseases, in particular RA. Central in our approach is the use of transcriptomics and proteomics technology in combination with bioinformatics to disclose the gene expression signatures and biological pathways in the synovial tissues and cells of patients with RA. As a partner in one of the Netherlands Genomics Centres of Excellence, the "Centre for Medical Systems Biology (CMSB)" we have access to the necessary facilities and infrastructure to carry out this technology driven type of research. This partner has already generated extensive gene expression datasets from cells and tissues of patients with RA that provide a valuable resource to identify molecular markers underlying disease heterogeneity and to
understand the underlying biology.
