Université d'Evry, Paris
Located at the Genopole of Evry and at Hôpital Lariboisière - AP-HP in
Paris.
GenHotel-EA 3886 is dedicated to the search for rheumatoid arthritis
(RA) genes. With ECRAF (European Consortium on Rheumatoid Arthritis
Families) that it coordinates, created in 1995 with European Union
funding from the BIOMED 2 program, GenHotel-EA 3886 benefits from a
resource of more than 5.000 DNA and clinical data from RA patients and
family members. ECRAF published in 1998 the first genome scan for RA
(1), refined in 2004 with 1088 highly polymorphic markers (2).
GenHotel-EA 3886 has developed its own bioinformatics tools to
investigate RA susceptibility candidate genes and participates to
GUIDAEL, the EULAR bioinformatics project on RA genes coordinated by Pr
Tom HUIZINGA in Leiden . In addition to its main project of testing
200 RA susceptibility candidate genes, GenHotel-EA 3886 tests the
proposed new RA candidate genes published by other groups, comforting
PTPN22 (3) or rejecting other genes (4) those as new important RA
genes.
GenHotel-EA 3886 also contributes to the modelisation of the
first RA gene, HLA-DRB1 (5) GenHotel-EA 3886 shares its scientific
potential in:i) releasing on the internet its genotyping data (see
www.genhotel.com ) ii) opening its lab to external teams for testing
more candidates genes iii) offering the testing of those genes for
other purposes, such as investigation for RA severity (6) or treatment
responses.
This sharing activity, especially the housing of members of external
teams, with 30 stays at GenHotel-EA 3886 organized in the last 4 years,
results in a significant training activity for the European Union.
