Patients – and research partners
Susan Edwards, 61, a former funeral director from Wigan near Manchester,
UK, has suffered from Myositis for almost seven years.
— I had the strangest symptoms for many months. Itching rashes all
over the body followed by severe muscular weakness and an almost paralysing
fatigue. After some time I could not even lift my arms, she recalls.
Having been perfectly healthy before Susan Edwards had no idea what kind
of illness she had got.
— First I went to see a dermatologist, because of the skin problems
but she had no idea what this could be. Luckily my GP was wise enough
to send me to a rheumatologist where I was immediately diagnosed.
Susan Edwards is also a member of the Myositis Support Group in England.
— I like to know more about my disease and this group enables us
to learn a lot from each other. To know that the AutoCure consortium has
now been able to collect samples from more than 800 Myositis patients
in Europe is really good news that gives us great hope for the future.
