Fina Kurremaan

She is the lead researcher of the study: SPECIFIC LOCATION OF THE TRAF1/C5 GENE ASSOCIATED WITH MULTIPLE AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES, also presented at a press conference at the EULAR congress.

The TRAF1/C5 gene has previously been established as a genetic risk factor for rheumatoid arthritis as well as other autoimmune diseases, like type 1 diabetes.
The new study, where 735 type 1 diabetes patients and 746 SLE patients from Spain and The Netherlands were genotyped, confirms that the TRAF1/C5 gene locus on chromosome 9 seems to play an important role in multiple autoimmune diseases.
— We hope that further study will give an insight into potential shared genetic pathways across autoimmune disorders, says Fina Kurreeman, who hopes that the findings will lead to innovation of novel therapeutic targets in the future.”
